People who drink wine are often interested in keeping their wine bottles safe. This is done though the use of a quality wine rack. As your wine ages, it will continue to mature and obtain a more full flavor. It is important to keep it stored properly, as certain variances in temperature and light can affect the final outcome. Choosing the right storage option for your wine can be confusing. Multiple designs are available such as diamond racks, shelves, bins and refrigerators.

A cabinet unit is the perfect place to keep the wine away from light, heat, and poor handling. In the cool confines of a cabinet, the wine can age properly. It’s also easy to access the cabinet when needed. If certain conditions are not perfect such as temperature, consider installing the cabinet in the basement or other cool area. A rack system provides a more open view of your wine, but should be kept in low light conditions. Racks stored on the counter are okay if you drink wine frequently and cycle through the bottles quickly. The reason we try to make the environment slightly humid is because the bottle cork can get too dry, leading to contamination or oxidation of the product. If the conditions get too warm, that can lead to the wine aging too fast. The perfect wine experiences a long, slow aging process.

Avoid placing the rack near a refrigerator, as they tend to give off heat which will ruin your wine. Darkness or low light conditions are also essential because UV light rays can enter the bottle and damage the aging wine. Never purchase a wine rack where the bottles are stored right-side up, because the wine will not be in contact with the cork. This can lead to the cork becoming dry. You don’t have to be a wine connoisseur to appreciate the taste of finely aged wine. If you can keep light levels down and maintain a humidity level of between 50 and 75 percent, you can experience a great tasting product using your wine rack. A rack doesn’t have to be big and elaborate, just big enough to accommodate the amount of bottles you intend to store.
